Overnight Website Challenge Phoenix 2017
In January 2017, tech teams worked pro bono for 24 hours -- worth over $80,000 in services -- to create new websites for four Arizona nonprofits.
Buddhist Panda Posse for Alzheimer's Research and Prevention Association
Project Summary from Team Buddhist Panda Posse
We worked with Alzheimer's Prevention to build an updated site that was responsive and easily managed by the non-profit. They were currently running a Drupal site that was difficult to update and maintain at scale. We ported their entire site over to Wordpress for easier maintainability. Also, we built an entire new front-end that was responsive and stylish.

Awesome! I knew that building a new site was a big project, but I didn't realize just how much work it is... and yet they did it. This is truly the ARPF Dream Team! Everyone is so knowledgeable, skillful and nice; it's so refreshing to work with such great young professionals.
AKOS for Art Odyssey Arizona
WINNER: Best Functionality
Project Summary from Team AKOS
Our goal was to provide Art Odyssey Arizona a website that reflects their organization's mission statement while serving it's purpose towards 3 key audiences (k-6 educators, existing volunteers and potential volunteers). We started by running a short version of our SCALE sprint, with how might we statements and rapid prototyping. The results from the sprint, led us to a substantial list of requirements, functionality and systems needed.
Within the timeframe, we were able to provide AOA a full brand package including Logo (3 options narrowed down to 1), letter heads, business cards, 2 pitch decks (for educators and volunteers), a full brand guide package for future reference, a Custom Mailchimp template, Social Profile Images, Facebook Page, Instagram account, LinkedIn Business page, a set of 30 custom designed icons, a Canva account with imported brand guide assets for future use and a bespoke website.
The website is built on Wordpress CMS, with following key features/functionality: Built on a custom theme (no need to keep updating), a Volunteer Member Portal area (highly customized) with protected content, a custom built gallery builder using native wordpress (no future updates), a dev-styleboard for easily sharing and updating brand documents (and code), landing page template, mailchimp integration, 4 sets of target audience specific contact forms, donation functionality (currently not live, because payment processor needs time to activate). There was way more, but I can't remember.
From Nonprofit Art Odyssey Arizona
Our team was absolutely amazing! They were patient with our lack of computer knowledge and our many many questions and comments. They went above and beyond, helping us set up a branding plan with a fabulous logo, a complete set of marketing tools as well as a spectacular website. When we first arrived at the Challenge, AKOS sat down with us and spent over an hour discussing what we wanted and what would help Art Odyssey Arizona. They then spent 24 hours solid successfully addressing our needs. The entire team is incredible!
Prism for Million Dollar Teacher Project
WINNER: People's Choice, Best Design, and Greatest Impact (Tie)
Project Summary from Team Prism
Prism's project was transforming the Million Dollar Teacher Project (MDTP) website, into a site that truly reflected its name. Prism's approach started with improving the overall usability by reworking the site's information architecture, redesigning the content, and establishing consistent branding. To ease the management of the site, we also needed to integrate WordPress as the CMS and Google Analytics. In addition redesigning a website and integrating CMS, Prism also implemented additional features to help MDTP with donations, events, and news.
From Nonprofit Million Dollar Teacher Project
Prism is amazing. They were patient and very professional. I know nothing about developing and designing websites and they immediately treated me like one of the team! They did a great job of walking me through the process from concept to execution. I really feel like they were a perfect fit for my group. Spending 24 hours with a group of strangers can be rough in any environment, this could have been additionally difficult because of the challenge of overhauling the Million Dollar Teacher Project Website, but Prism made it fun. They beyond exceeded expectation.
Empollones del Desierto for Pedal With Warriors
WINNER: Greatest Impact (Tie)
Project Summary from Team Empollones del Desierto
Our team modernized the PWW brand to more usable and relatable theme for use in various print and digital environments. We created PWW a Word Press website with a beaver builder plugin so that the customer would have a simplified way to manage content and photos. The project was design intensive as we looked to convey the overall impact of PWW to their veterans through action oriented photography and user-centric content.
From Nonprofit Pedal With Warriors
Knowledgeable, creative, organized, focused, competent, great sense of humor and collaboration. . . was a lot of fun and easy to be with for a constant 24 hours! Unbelievable how the process ran like clockwork, each team member had their tasks and stand up meetings were regularly scheduled for updates. Tasks were reassigned and completed expeditiously. As the NPO, we were well briefed ahead of time as to the expectations of content so it was accessible to the team for content. What an honor to work with such a senior team of prepared, creative designers, programmers and developers.
Many thanks to all our teams of volunteer technology pros, nonprofit leaders, support team, and sponsors!
